Hallcroft Infant And Nursery School

At Hallcroft School we are passionate about encouraging our children to read!

We want to prepare our pupils and give them the skills, knowledge and understanding that they need in reading for everyday life but also a natural love of books.

Reading for pleasure is something that we strongly promote and the children

hear a variety of stories on a daily basis.

Below are examples of experiences pupils can independently access to encourage this love of reading at Hallcroft School.

Please click on the pictures at the bottom of the page to access free books and reading resources to use with your child.

From as early as entry to Foundation one pupils are encouraged to respect books and handle them carefully and gently.

Pupils are able to access a variety of books across school and in Foundation one are saturated in ten key texts to enable them to become familiar with key stories.  This enables pupils to become natural story tellers.

Pupils are encouraged to access small world play areas and puppet theatres to retell stories.

Every classroom in school has a dedicated, well resourced reading area to allow pupils independence when accessing and exploring books.
